I NEVER KNEW OF ANYTHING UNHOLY - Poem

I never knew of anything unholy.

For long I did ignore
the part of me that knew.

Others taught me
the universe as a machine,
and for long
I did believe them.

Alone in the crowd
and home at the heart,
my sorrows I have let go.

Why did I avoid the truth?
And what truth am I avoiding now?

What of today is of no other day?
And what of today is of all days?

What of me is of no one else?
And what of me is of all the same?

There is no end.
Life will go on.

No objective to be met.
Just the changing tides.

The dying of the old.
And the birth of the new.

Death the disguise
of permanent existence.

As I sit here
and ponder the unknown
I may either wallow
or rejoice.

The choice is mine
and by choice
reality is born.

I never knew of anything unholy,
it's just that sometimes I forget.
