View this post on Instagram My grandfather sleeping. . It's a different kind of portrait than what is usual, although I feel it still communicates something to me in a way. . Im not sure about what meaning it holds, and I guess its best to keep it that way, so that others may fill in the gaps. For a change, Im starting to recognise that great artworks are both compelling statements and unsolvable mysteries/questions. That is what intrigues us so much. . Also, on the side of the creator, the idea of preaching or trying to manifest an ideal. I think this may render the artwork inauthentic and hollow. I mean, it feels like the artist's bullshit. In works we love we are left a space for us to get in, so there's a certain humility by the artist to not leave it all said and done. . Of course, there are different types of artists, artworks, and art-experiences. Some feels preachy, other feels authentic while remaining idealistic. . I guess we could say about this type of work that it is unassuming. Non-pretentious. Not set out to save the world, but rather to explore an interest, to enjoy something ordinary for what it is. . I invite you to comment on anything that might be crossing your mind because of the drawing and the writing. I would like to know what you think. Thank you for your time and attention, Nil . . . #art #artwork #artist #arte #kunst #draw #drawing #inkdrawing #portrait #figurativeart #figurativedrawing #fineart #sketch #human #zest #expressiveart #create #creativity #visualart #visualartist #beauty #representationalart #contemporaryartist #contemporarydrawing #contemporaryart #contemporaryartcollectors #contemporaryfigurative #contemporaryrealism A post shared by Nil Inglis (@nil_inglis) on Jul 4, 2020 at 11:47am PDT
