SELF PORTRAITS
I believe in knowing thyself, which in my photos
I do most directly through my self portraits. In them I present my appearance, but I strive to go deeper. Beyond normal portraiture; beyond questions of appearance, presentation and personality, I use myself as a model to express core emotional / experiential / spiritual states, which I feel belong both to myself and the collective consciousness in some way. Through formal experimentation I am able to communicate more effectively these states of consciousness. They are introspective and often relate to issues such as struggle, dark/light balance, duality, and more. |
LANDSCAPES
I believe in our deep connection with mother nature
and in appreciating the simple, ordinary things in life. (hint: there are no ordinary things in life) In nature I see a home to return to, the embrace of nature, the blossoming of nature, love, abundance, order, harmony and simplicity. I awe and take much delight at the sheer beauty of nature. This is what I try to capture in my pictures relating to it. |
PEOPLE
I believe in the intrinsic worth and value of human beings,
so I capture the people I encounter along my way as they are. I do not stage them or ask them to pose for me. My curiosity is awakened at that moment and I simply have to take them in. Other fascinations of mine include character and behaviour, and how humans interrelate with their surroundings. A both similar and distinctly different set of photos are the ones of some of my loved ones. In them it is most often humour and trust which is captured. All of this you will be able to find in my people-themed pictures. |
